Six lucky students at North Falmouth Elementary got to dump buckets of slime on their principal and vice principal on Tuesday, April 29. Principal Rebecca Vieira and Vice Principal Melissa Varao removed their shoes, donned sunglasses and stepped into kiddie pools, accepting their fate. The special occasion, witnessed by a cafetorium full of cheering students, happened because the school’s fundraising drive was successful. Ms. Vieira and Ms. Varao had made a deal with the students; they would subject themselves to being doused with neon green slime if the fundraising drive reached $25,000. And it did. “Why are we here today?” Ms. Vieira asked the crowd of elementary students. “Slime!” They yelled in unison, so loudly some teachers covered their ears. Six students were selected to upend the buckets. Kindergartener Sam DiBona, first grader Ana Santos, second grader Keyshawn Devin, third grader Angelina Geagea and fourth graders Natalie Romberger and Drees Wilson were called up from the crowd to perform the task. Ms. Vieira and Ms. Varao took their sliming like champs—smiling, laughing and dancing in their gooey glory. The fundraiser, Ms. Vieira said in a phone call, raised money to rehabilitate the school’s existing community garden and purchase a new, hoop-house style greenhouse that will extend the schools growing season. The garden will help supplement the schools Harvest of the Month program, which encourages students to try new recipes featuring healthy ingredients by providing farm fresh produce from local farms. Our largest fundraiser of the school year kicked off on Monday, 2/10. Our fundraiser is in collaboration with MYBOOSTER.COM. We look to collect donations towards our school wide goal of $25,000. The funds raised will be put towards a redesign of our school gardens by adding a greenhouse structure. This will allow us to extend our growing season and we hope to soon be able to contribute produce to our Harvest of the Month program. This is a very exciting time. Students will earn rewards for meeting steps towards our fundraising goals and the event culminates with the GLOW RUN on Wednesday, March 12th! On the run day, we transform the gym into a glow in the dark track with inflatable tunnels and music to keep the energy going.
You will be receiving daily reminders via email and you can also check for updates on our North Falmouth School Facebook page. You can get started by going to MYBOOSTER.COM.
